Your e-car charging station for at home
Our complete package for electric company cars makes it easy for you to have an electric car charging station at home.
Company car drivers can conveniently charge their electric car at home using an electric car charging station. Our Smart-Meter-Gateway ensures intelligent control of the charging process: we focus on times when the grid is underutilized and electricity consumption allows for charging.
We take care of the charging infrastructure in the garage, i.e. the installation of the e-car charging station for at home (called a wallbox) as well as the complete service and maintenance. Everything is included in the fixed monthly price – including the electricity used by the employees. A separate meter bills the electricity costs independently of private electricity consumption.
The electric car can not only be charged at home, but also at work thanks to our charging solutions for companies.
You can also charge your electric car on the go with our charging solution: at over 540,000 charging stations across Europe. All drivers need is the Mer app and the charging card.
When it comes to e-car charging stations for the home, costs are often an issue. At Mer, billing is based on fleet leasing logic: we offer you predictable, transparent costs through a fixed monthly flat rate. This flat rate is based on mileage, contract term and vehicle model.
Thanks to commercial conditions, you benefit from an excellent price-performance ratio with double tax advantages. We will be happy to explain to you in detail how this works and how your e-car charging station at home can benefit from a subsidy.
FAQ
Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about e-car charging stations at home:
Is home charging only available for homeowners and what are the requirements for an e-car charging station at home?
No. In principle, a home charging solution can be installed at any type of location. However, the requirements are generally simpler for homeowners than for homeowners’ associations or tenants. There, the owner of a condominium must ask for permission to install an e-car charging station at home at the owners’ meeting.
Since the new WEMoG (Wohnungseigentumsmodernisierungsgesetz) came into force at the end of 2020, a simple majority is now sufficient.
Does home charging also work on the parking space?
An electric car charging station for the home should always be installed where the electric car is parked. Garages or carports are usually suitable for this. However, electric car charging stations for the home can also be installed in outdoor parking spaces. If the appropriate permission is obtained, even on street lamps. And following a court ruling in 2022, there is also no general ban on parking and charging electric vehicles in underground garages. Provided that the owners agree to an electric car charging station for their home.
Who installs the home charging station?
In Germany, an electric car charging station for the home must always be installed by an electrician, similar to a stove in the kitchen. This is because the e-car charging station at home works with high voltage current and handling it can be dangerous. It is also a question of liability. In the event of damage, the insurance only applies if the e-car charging station has been properly installed at home. Another advantage: the expert can assess the conditions for home charging in advance and estimate the costs.
Is construction work necessary for the installation?
Depending on where the e-car charging station is to be installed at home, construction work may be necessary. For example, the electrics in old buildings may need to be completely modernized, which can involve major alterations. As a rule, however, cables must be laid from the electric car charging station to the distribution box and holes may need to be drilled in the garage wall, for example. To get an overview of the necessary measures, a virtual or personal check is carried out in advance.
What about your e-car charging station for the home and the costs?
With our charging solution, we offer you two billing models for your e-car charging station at home. You can find these directly under the FAQ section.

Electric cars can theoretically also be charged with 230 volts from a normal household socket. However, this is not only a very lengthy process, but also poses an increased risk of fire due to possible overloading of the cable. To prevent this, achieve a higher charging capacity and enable smart billing of the charged electricity, it is advisable to install an electric car charging station at home (wallbox) where the car can be charged.
Depending on the type of e-car charging station at home, the responsible electricity grid operator must at least be informed about the installation, which is usually done by the electrician. In the case of an electric car charging station at home with a maximum output of 11 kW, it is sufficient under current legislation to notify the installation. Approval from the grid operator is only required for more than 11 kW.
The power connection must also be selected depending on the desired charging power. For electric car charging stations at home, a high-voltage connection is recommended, especially for newer electric vehicles, in order to make the best possible use of the charging capacity. In Germany, a three-phase alternating current line with 400 volts is usually used.
Good news for fleet managers: Since 2022, your company has been entitled to attractive bonuses through trading in the GHG quota for fully electric company cars.
The greenhouse gas reduction quota (GHG quota for short) is a target instrument for mineral oil companies to reduce CO2 emissions. GHG quota trading in turn means the possibility of selling the CO2 emissions saved by electric cars to mineral oil companies. You can find out more on our page on the GHG premium.
